Over the past five years, I have been playing with the idea of adapting my Master’s thesis into a full-length volume. For those unfamiliar, I wrote my Master’s thesis – Shared Humanity: Protection and its Problems – as a normative analysis of The Responsibility to Protect (R2P).
In short, I studied a principle which underscores the international community’s responsibility to protect people from genocide, ethnic cleansing, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. Here’s a link in which Google Books gives it a nice page number boost!
While I have written on a variety of topics over the years, this subject has always been my underlying focus – from one of the first essays I contributed to The Mantle, to my more recent piece in Foreign Policy in Focus. This topic has also been the one book idea I can’t shake, and the one I now intend to write.
The first adaptation of this project will take the form of an essay collection, bringing together in one place all of my writings on R2P. I look forward to sharing this collection with you when it’s finished!
